Dinosaurs at the Heard Museum

We took Jack out to the Heard Museum with Nana, Papa K and Great Aunt Cindy. This was the last weekend of their big dinosaur exhibit where they have gigantic animatronic dinosaurs. He really had a great time seeing them all and did great walking the trails and being an overall good boy. This was our first time going out there even though it's been about ten minutes from us for seven and a half years now.

Jack had a great Halloween this year. He went as a cowboy, obviously. A little bit of Woody from Toy Story, but not officially Woody. He wore this costume all day long. He met up with Nana and Papa for lunch so they could see him dressed up.

Then after work, they three of us met up in old downtown McKinney for "Scare on the Square." He had fun going around to all the stores and getting candy. We were (happily) shocked at how good he did in the big crowds. He stayed close to us, waited his turn, never got fussy, said "trick or treat" and "thank you".

Then we went home, stopped down for a quick dinner and went trick or treating around our neighborhood with Gracelyn and later, Michael. He did good on this leg of the day-long celebration too. Most of the time after he said "thank you", he'd yell out "Happy Halloween!". At one point Michael fell down and didn't realized he'd drop several pieces of his candy. Jack stopped, put down his pumpkin and started picking it up. We thought he was gonna take it, but he yelled out to Michael, who had walked away, "Here you go Michael!"

He had a fun day. Beware there are a lot of photos, but the cuteness level was at 11.

Fall is here

It may not feel much like it right now, but it is here. Jack is very excited. He got to do a Fall tree project....
And help us get out all our Fall and Halloween decorations. He's really into skeletons this year. When he sees ones he yells, "Skeletooooon!" and takes off laughing and running. He also really likes pumpkins. As a matter of fact all the ones that are supposed to be on the tables throughout the house are lined up on the floor in his room.
Today we went to the Cottonwood Creek Arts Festival in Richardson.We had a lot of fun. At last count, Jack got to pet 864 dogs. We've been teaching him how he needs to ask the owner's permission, how he needs to let the dogs smell his hand and how to pet them nicely.

He stopped for a bit to listen to some live music...
Then he created some artwork in the kid's area...
And got to go all "Handy Manny" on a chiseling project...

3 Year Check Up

Brave boy after his 3 year check-up. Rocky start, didn’t want to go in. Then, he did amazingly as the doctor examined him, we couldn’t believe it. But it went bad again when he got the flu vaccine squirted up his nose. Overall it went great. A lollipop and sticker cures all.

Easter Part 2

More Easter festivities. Egg hunt between the houses with Gracelyn. They seem a bit confused on what to do.
But they figured it out. Hey, jellybeans!

Arboretum and Easter Part 1

Heather and Jack went to the Arboretum the other day while dear old Dad was stuck at the grindstone. This trip provided Jack with some of his favorite things.

#1 Smelling flowers. Can't get enough.

#2 Music. A free music class. What's not to love?
#3 Petting animals. These photos might as well all be captioned, "Hey there little fella!" (like he says to Kirby)

He also climbed some stairs, which he could take or leave.
We met up with our neighbors at the City of Allen's Easter event. We waited in line for 15 or 20 minutes so Jack could get his photo taken with the Easter Bunny and then he changed his mind once he got a good look at him. I think he felt he was "shifty". He did however, brave the dizzying heights of the rock climbing wall...
He also enjoyed a balloon (with Gracelyn) until it popped. Then we saw the saddest face that ever existed on the face of the Earth or any other known planet, or solar system or galaxy or even beyond. But he got a replacement one and balance was once again restored.

Zoo Day 1

The Dallas Zoo lowered it's admission price to $5.00 during February. It was such a good deal, Jack got to go two days in a row. We all three went with Nana K. and Papa K. on Sunday and then Jack and Heather went on Monday with his buddy Michael and his mom and dad. Also on Sunday, his neighbor friend Gracelyn and her parents showed up and we ran into them a few times.

Yo Gabba Gabba Concert

Jack went to his first concert tonight, the Yo Gabba Gabba show in Frisco. He had a lot of fun and did really, really well considering he didn't take a nap today, went to a birthday party, then straight to the show, that ended around 6:30 when he's usually eating dinner. He didn't really dance around that much, but he did a little, he mainly just sat enthralled by what he was seeing. I think he was overwhelmed by all the people, lights and noise, plus he was tired as could be. He did start drumming wildly when they brought out an all drum band. At the end he almost cried as everyone sang goodbye to each of the Gabba Gang. It was terribly sad, but cute at the same time. He was so sad to see them go, but he got through it. Stiff upper lip and all.

I really thought this would be the year of the classic crying kid with Santa. But we dodged a bullet. He did really great in line (which was only about 5 minutes), where he said "Merry Christmas" and "Hi Santa" and watched all the other kids take their turns. He did good coming up to Santa and making small talk. But when he got on his knee and we backed out of the shot, he started to get whiny and reaching out for us. Luckily, he calmed down a bit and we managed to get this shot. He's not smiling, but he's also not bawling. So we'll take it. He told Santa thank you for the free coloring book and said goodbye.

He had a lot of Jack-tivites.

Saturday morning he went to a birthday party at the park for the neighbor girl. Hung out with the ladies...

Enjoyed his first juice pack..

And a cupcake. Which of course, he's had before but was no less enthusiastic...

Sunday morning he got a haircut. For Halloween, he was supposed to be a puppy. But he wanted nothing to do with his costume, plus it was crazy hot. We went to an outdoor Fall/Halloween festival and Jack went as a rocker. He wore his t-shirt with the little cartoon guitar, his shades and we gelled his hair (what was left) into a faux-hawk.

At the festival he rode a train while Dad made silly faces...

Rode a pony while Mom made even sillier faces...

Had a lollipop (as well as his first ever Smarties and Skittles)..

Hung out with pretty gals...

..and with construction worker Michael...

Then he went over to Nana and Papa K's house for pizza where he gave out candy all night. He loved it. We'd be sitting at the table eating, the doorbell would ring, Nana would get up and Jack would run to help. He put candy in the bags and yelled Halloween! to everyone. When no one was coming up, he'd stand on the porch, candy in hand, yelling at people across the street and next door as if to entice them over.

He was a little scared of one of the costumes in this one as he peeks around at it...

Also, he got some super cool fall pjs (among other things) from Chloe, Peter and Michael. And you can see his new hair cut better...

Not that we went camping, his shirt just says that. We're all back from our trip to Colorado and of course we have a ton of photos to go through. But I thought I'd share these first because they're pretty good. The first one is our favorite. I took them both with my iPhone and the first one I ran through my CrossProcess App which let's you do some cool things with the color of a photo, gave it a nice retro look. The second one is straight from the phone and shows Jack doing his patented "Hulking Out" move.

Arts and Crafts with Mommy

Jack and Heather made an apple tree project together. It's a tree covered with felt and two little felt apples that attach to it. You say a little rhyme and shake the tree until the apples fall off.
Jack also got to do his first "at-home" painting. He did really well.

If you look here at the finished product, I really think he may go somewhere in the field of art...

Jack's New Tricycle

We finally got around to giving Jack the trike we got him for his birthday. He really loves it even though he's not adept at peddling yet.

How's this for a slice of Americana? A kid learning to ride his new trike while the Ice Cream Man passes by?

Then he got the super awesome Lightning ('Chow) McQueen helmet. All was right with the world.

Later, he felt that his helmet would be perfect for football watching.

After his two year check-up, where he got a shot. Sad-faced little man made content with his dinosaur, a newly-received Spider-Man sticker and the Fresh Beat Band on the tv in the waiting room. We sat there for 5 minutes to help him feel better.

Jack's 2 Year Birthday Party

I got a scolding today from Mimi via Nana K that I needed to get Jack's birthday party photos on his site. So here they are. I didn't want to feel the wrath of Mimi. Not again.

The party went great, Jack did really well, everyone seemed to have fun. We went with an airplane theme this year. We're glad so many people came, we had a great time and Jack got a ton of cool presents, including a Woody Toy Story guitar that he is obsessed with.

Or 24 months. Six in one hand as they say. Jack had a great birthday party, thanks to Heather. He had fun with everyone (once he got over s shy spell) and got a lot of really cool gifts. Thanks to everyone who came out, we appreciate it. Still can't believe he is two. Little man.

Ranch, Hulk and Smoothie

On our way back through Arkansas, we stopped for breakfast at McDonald's. As I was ordering, Jack became fascinated with the Happy Meal Marvel Super Hero toy display. Smiling, pointing and saying "Hulk! Hulk!" to Heather. We didn't notice the guy reading the paper in the booth next to them, who had gotten up, and gone back into the kitchen. He came out with a brand new Hulk and gave it to Jack. Turns out he was the manager. Happy boy. We told him not to except this type of treatment all the time.

Jack got to enjoy his first smoothie with Heather at Market Street today. I think he liked it.

Man, he's almost 2.

Carousel and Lizards

We met up with Nana and Papa K at the mall and let Jack ride the carousel for the first time. We were a little worried he might get freaked out by it and not want to do it. But, he loved it. So much that he almost got upset when we had to get off. From the second we got in line, he was signing and saying "please, please, please" pointing to it. He was giddy when I sat him down on the horse, bouncing up and down laughing out loud. Each time we'd go around, I'd get him to wave really wildly at Nana, Papa and Mama. He'd scream and laugh and wave each time. One in the win column.

He also went back to see more animals last Thursday. Here is encounter with a Blue-tongued Skink Lizard...

Haircut and Other Happenings

We broke down and took Jack to get his haircut. It went pretty badly again. But it's done. Here is a before and after comparison.

Playing with Michael. I was told that Michael would hand Jack a block, Jack would say "thank you" and add it to the structure they were building. I did not witness this, so you'll just have to take Heather's word for it.
Something else I didn't witness. Heather took him up to one of the shopping centers in the area because the Heard Museum has these events where they bring up some of their animals so that kids can meet them. Here's Jack checking out a Bearded Dragon and a Boa Constrictor...

Entering crazy toddler stage? Maybe. Lately, he wants to wear shorts with jeans over them. Today, two pairs of jeans over them.Rain delay. We took him out to get in his first game of tee-ball. It lasted about 45 seconds because, as you might be able to see, it starting pouring down rain. But look how happy he is.
